About Morgan

IMG_0853 2.JPG

When not in the classroom, I am deeply engrossed in the fantastic worlds of books, movies, and theology. I am curious about the cosmologies of communities around the world as well as those crafted through fiction. These often are not only founded in spirituality and mystery, but in physical, scientific study, prompting my research in the fields of quantum physics, mathematics, and astronomy. As a sentimentalist, I am interested in memory, experience, personal stories, and whether they live as fact or fiction in our minds.

My creative process is informed by writing—a generative practice that fuels my imagination and provides the conceptual foundation for my visual art, often in paintings and sound collages. This interplay between written thought and painted image leads me to borrow from physics, philosophy, science fiction, and personal mythologies.. In these I use layering as a mode for building up the compositions. I frequently gravitate towards the use of my own body as subject matter for 2D visual works, as I have a formal fascination with the human form. My sound pieces use layering in order to create soundscapes which mimic memory and perception.

Though painting and sound are most frequently used, the work is primarily driven by a conceptual,  interdisciplinary approach.. It is important to me for my work to have deep meaning embedded in it which has led to me using textiles, sculpture materials, spreadsheets, and deconstructed ready-mades such as the interior of a piano.

La Calera - Oaxaca, OAX

January 21, 2023

Alongside her MFA program, Morgan participated in an open house exhibit which took place in a refurbished lime factory, La Calera. Her work was used as an audio and visual backdrop for other performance based artists in the program. Morgan believes this to have been the first time her audio work was shown in a space that it was perceived as intended.

Solo Exhibition - "Seconds Wasted"

Feb 23 - Mar 11 2021

One of nine shows to be chosen for exhibition at the UNT Union Gallery. The work chosen was a part of Morgan's more prominent paintings, sound art, and the tapestry "Color Coded". It highlighted issues within the church that Morgan believes can be solved through more in depth studies of religious texts as well as a re-centered focus on the humanity within prophetic stories.
